Welcome to Earthsong Farm, an up-and-coming 160+ acre certified-organic farm located in the heart of Embarrass, Minnesota!
Finding better and more harmonious ways to interact with our changing environment is going to be critical to life on this planet in the years ahead. We are going to be doing our part by supplying local food co-ops and farmer's markets in the Virginia / Embarrass / Tower / Ely area with fairly priced LOCAL alternatives to all the imported "organics" that are currently on offer.
Our first crops are going to be about 20 acres of potatoes and another 20 acres of organic heirloom corn, and we are going to be kicking all this off early next year!
There is SO much work ahead of us to turn this awesome space into a working and fully restored 1900's Finish farm.
New tractors and tractor-mounted tillers: check. Certified organic soil: check. Two wells: check.
... well, that leaves only about a million more things we have to get done before we plant the first potatoes or corn next spring.
Ralph has already spent most of this year's spring and summer on the roof of the very old 1900's farm house, hand-cutting and fitting and shaping board-after-board of shiplapped roof decking. Samantha is already transplanting trees, too, roaming this incredible land and planning the overall layout of the farm.
Next spring, Ralph will be taking on the hand-hewn logs in the still-standing homesteader's 1910 wood-fired sauna, and of course, plumbing and rewiring the entire main house.
Ralph can't wait for the sauna to be operational again... he's looking forward to a lot of muscle-relaxing evenings in it!
